How to Type Special Characters on Mac

Are you still typing accents and umlauts using key combinations? Searching for the right combination for the é, ü or í is no longer necessary. The Mac offers you the option itself.

You know it. If you are just typing comfortably, you need a letter with an accent or diaeresis. You can continue typing and correct the word using the spell check, but it is more convenient to do it right right away. This tip shows you how to do that on a Mac with the operating system Mac OS X 10.10 Yosemite or higher.

Fortunately, it is not that difficult to type the correct letter. Keep the letter in question pressed longer and in the window that appears you can see which number belongs to which letter. Press the corresponding number on the keyboard and the letter is now in the text. You can also click on the correct letter with the mouse, but then your hands will leave the keyboard.

Can you imagine it difficult? You can see it in the video below. The video was shot on a Mac with OS X 10.10 Yosemite, but the steps are the same on other versions of the operating system.
