Huge star shower
Security institute Euro NCAP crashed sixteen cars into its walls in November. No less than fifteen of these achieved the highest possible score of 5 NCAP stars, including the Hyundai Ioniq 6, the Nio ET7, the new Honda Civic, the Toyota bZ4X and the Nissan Ariya.
Euro NCAP – the European division of Global NCAP – subjected no less than sixteen cars to its extensive safety tests in November. Of those sixteen models killed, no less than fifteen returned home with the maximum possible score of 5 NCAP stars.
Among the fifteen cars that managed to rake in 5 NCAP stars, there is a whole bunch of fully electric models. For example, not only the Hyundai Ioniq 6 received the top score, but also the Tesla Model S, the Nio ET7, Toyota bZ4X, Subaru Solterra, Nissan Ariya and the brand new Smart #1 recorded a 5-star NCAP result on their report.
Not every new car that comes on the market is fully electric, so Euro NCAP also drove a whole series of models with combustion engines against its walls. Of those nine cars, eight achieved the highest possible score of 5 stars: the new Honda Civic, the Toyota Corolla Cross, Nissan X-Trail, Renault Austral, the new Range Rover and Range Rover Sport, the Isuzu D-Max and the Chinese Wey Coffee 02. The only candidate not to score five stars was the DS 9. DS’ top sedan returned home with 4 stars. The DS 9 mainly lost points because the sedan would make an ‘aggressive impact’ in a frontal collision.
Euro NCAP is of course pleased with the test results. Next year the NCAP tests will be expanded and therefore a bit stricter. NCAP will take into account, among other things, the way in which cars try to guarantee the safety of pedestrians and cyclists.
