Kia EV6 GT, Lucid Air and Citroën C3 also won prizes
Earlier this year, the Jeep Avenger was named Car of the Year in the Netherlands. It is now also known which cars were showered with prizes by an international jury during the World Car of the Year election. The absolute winner is the Hyundai Ioniq 6. The electric Hyundai won three titles.
The Hyundai Ioniq 6 can call itself this year’s World Car of the Year. The eccentric electric Hyundai thus trumped cars such as the new Mercedes-Benz C-class, Nissan Ariya, Kia Niro, Mazda CX-60, Alfa Romeo Tonale and BMW 2-series Coupé and X1.

As mentioned, the Ioniq 6 brought home more than one trophy. The Hyundai Ioniq 6 was also named World Electric Vehicle and won World Car Design of the Year. In the EV category, the Ioniq 6 stayed ahead of the BMW i7, Genesis GV60, Kia Niro EV and the imposing Lucid Air. The bold design of the Ioniq 6 impressed the judges so much that finalists Cadillac Lyriq, Range Rover, Lucid Air and Nissan Z missed out on the World Car Design title. The fact that Hyundai’s designs are popular is evident from the fact that the Hyundai Ioniq 5 won the World Car Design of the Year title last year. The six-member jury that assessed the designs of the automotive finalists included none other than designers Ian Callum and Gert Hildebrand.

But there are more winners. The Lucid Air was crowned World Luxury Car of the Year, a title that was also contested by the BMW 7 Series, Genesis G90, Range Rover and Range Rover Sport. The Kia EV6 GT can call itself World Performance Car of the Year, a title that the BMW M4 CSL, Nissan Z, Porsche 911 GT3 RS and the Toyota GR Corolla also had a chance to win. The new Citroën C3 introduced for the Indian market – which has nothing to do with our C3 – was awarded World Urban Car of the Year. The Volkswagen Taigo and Ora Funky Cat therefore returned home empty-handed.
This Citroën C3 does not exist in Europe at all.
To participate in the World Electric Vehicle competition, an EV must be built in a minimum of 5,000 units per year and must be sold in at least two major markets (China, Europe, India, Japan, Korea) between January 2022 and March 2023. , Latin America, the United States) have been sold across at least two continents.
