Just new generations coming

Hyundai sticks to i10, i20 and i30

Various car manufacturers are pulling the plug on their smallest models, but Hyundai is sticking to its European entry-level model: the i10. The brand says that the Hyundai i10 will simply get a successor, just like the i20 and i30.

Hyundai recently gave the i10 a facelift and with that the car seems to have to sing it out for a while. Will Hyundai, like many other brands, stop sooner than later with its A-segmenter? No. Michael Cole – head of Hyundai Motor Europe – tells the English Autocar that the arrival of a new i10 is currently part of the brand’s plans.

The i30 and i20 can also look forward to a new generation, according to Cole. “I don’t want to turn my back on any buyer group.” That is somewhat striking. It was recently announced that Kia will discontinue the Rio, the technical sister model of the Hyundai i20, after this year. According to Michael Cole, Hyundai is thinking about what the model range will look like in the long term. So don’t be surprised if Hyundai does give a different interpretation to the traditional A, B and C segment at a certain point.

Cole says there’s a market for smaller electric models than the Kona and it’s important for Hyundai to think about that.
