Together with the iPhone 15, Apple came with FineWoven cases. Now a year later, we wouldn’t mind at all if Apple discontinued these cases.
If Apple discontinues these cases that wouldn’t be a big deal at all
During the 2023 iPhone 15 presentation, Apple released the new FineWoven cases. These cases are made of a new type of textile and are the replacement for Apple’s leather cases.
FineWoven is made from recycled microtwill, which Apple says feels like suede. FineWoven produces far fewer emissions than leather, but Apple already warned of some drawbacks. Now a year later, the drawbacks are quite visible.
It was soon clear that the FineWoven cases are very sensitive to stains and scratches. Complaints about these problems already surfaced in the first weeks after the release of the new cases. Now, a year later, we know even better how durable the case actually is. And what do you know: Apple’s FineWoven cases do not last long at all and also get dirty very quickly.
It has even gone so far that Amazon has placed a warning on some of the FineWoven cases on their website, stating that it is a product that is often returned by customers.
In addition, Apple expert Mark Gurman recently said that supplies of FineWoven accessories were starting to run out in Apple Stores. This gave the impression that the cases are no longer being made. But that probably has another reason.
Most Apple accessories have seasonal colors. This means that they regularly get new colors, and that the old colors are slowly running out. So there will probably be new FineWoven cases (in new colors) for the iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Pro, iPhone 16 Plus and iPhone 16 Pro Max.
Of course, we’ll have to wait and see, but we wouldn’t mind at all if Apple chooses a different material for the new covers. At least a material that is a lot less sensitive to scratches and stains.
