Volkswagen has released more details of the Tiguan R. The sporty top version of the Tiguan gets a 2.0 TSI as power plant, which helps the SUV to achieve decent performance.
In the middle of this year, Volkswagen presented the facelifted Tiguan to the world. During that point session, the SUV got more than just a new nose. The Tiguan was introduced to plug-in hybrid powertrains for the first time in its existence. In addition, Volkswagen added a full-fledged R version to the international range of the Tiguan for the first time. No official specifications were yet known for that Tiguan R. Until now.

Our suspicions that the Tiguan R, like the Arteon R presented at the same time, would receive a 320 hp and 420 Nm strong 2.0 TSI, are confirmed. The Tiguan R also has a 320 hp two liters as its beating heart, a machine that is linked to a DSG automatic transmission with seven gears. With this powertrain, the Tiguan R shoots to 100 km / h in 4.9 seconds. The top speed of the Volkswagen Tiguan R is 250 km / h. It is clearly the fastest Tiguan there has ever been. In comparison, the new Golf R with the same drivetrain is only 0.2 seconds faster in the 0-100 sprint.

The Tiguan R has 4Motion all-wheel drive to bring the 320 hp and 420 Nm to the tarmac decently. R-Performance Torque Vectoring helps with this, a system that distributes power separately to the front and rear axles, as well as to the rear wheels. Of course, the Tiguan R is also quite thick on the outside. Sporty spoiler and bumper work together with 20-inch light alloy give the Tiguan R a quite different look. The Tiguan R is 1 centimeter closer to the asphalt than its regular brothers and sisters. Behind the wheels there are 18-inch brake discs. 21-inch light alloy and an Akrapovič exhaust system are on the option list in good R tradition.
The Dutch importer informed Techzle at the unveiling of the facelifted Tiguan that the R version will not be coming to the Netherlands.
