In detail: MG EHS Plug-in Hybrid

MG has highlighted the EHS shown earlier this year. The new plug-in hybrid big brother of the electric ZS EV has virtually no secrets anymore!

MG is bringing a second model to the Dutch market: the EHS. Unlike the ZS EV, which the brand already sells in our country, the EHS is not a fully electric model, but an SUV with a plug-in hybrid powertrain. Previously, we had to make do with the specifications of the EHS as it will soon be sold in the United Kingdom. Now we have all the details of the MG EHS as it will come to the Netherlands early next year.

The EHS is the plug-in hybrid variant of the HS that MG has been selling in China for a while. The SUV is 4.57 meters long, which makes it about 20 centimeters longer than, for example, a Nissan Qashqai. In fact, the EHS falls in size between cars like the Kia Sportage and Renault Koleos. The wheelbase is 2.72 meters. The dimensions of the EHS already betray that MG’s latest entry has an excellent space available. The luggage compartment has a volume of 448 liters. If you throw the back seat flat, you can carry 1,375 liters of stuff along.

Perhaps more interesting is the powertrain. The MG EHS Plug-in Hybrid has a 162 hp and 250 Nm strong 1.5-liter petrol engine, a blown four-cylinder that works together with a 122 hp and 230 Nm strong electric motor. The whole delivers a system power of 258 hp and 370 Nm. The petrol engine sends its power to the front wheels via a six-speed automatic transmission. The electric motor transfers its power to the road via a four-speed unit. This means that the EHS Plug-in Hybrid has a speed of 100 km / h in 6.8 seconds. The top speed of the new MG, weighing more than 1,700 kilos, is 190 km / h. More interesting with a plug-in hybrid is of course the electric range. The EHS Plug-in Hybrid has a battery pack with a capacity of 16.6 kWh, good for an electric one range of 52 kilometers. With a maximum charging capacity of 3.7 kWh, the package can be recharged in 4.5 hours.

From € 34,000

MG markets the EHS Plug-in Hybrid in two flavors. The SUV will be available as Comfort and Luxury. An exact Dutch price is not yet known. MG does say that the European starting price, excluding taxes, is € 34,000.

We can reassure anyone who immediately gets cold sweats when it comes to safety with a car made in China. The regular petrol versions have already managed to put five NCAP stars after their name. The MG EHS features adaptive cruise control, blind spot detection, Forward Collision Control, an emergency braking system, lane assist and a 360-degree camera. All safety gadgets have been brought together under the name MG Pilot. The plug-in hybrid MG will also be available with things like LED daytime running lights, LED rear lights and dynamic turn signals. Other indulgence comes in the form of a 12.3-inch digital instrumentation and a 10.1-inch large infotainment system that can handle both Apple Carplay and Android Auto. Also available: a large panoramic glass roof and mood lighting with 64 selectable colors.

Exact Dutch prices will follow in the run-up to the market launch. MG gives a 7-year warranty on the powertrain, which is certainly not wrong.
