In Norway, the Porsche Taycan sells better than all petrol cars combined

How few new fuel cars are still being sold in Norway? You can easily see that in the month of January, when fewer petrol cars were registered throughout the country than copies of the electric Porsche Taycan.

In Norway, the Porsche Taycan sells better than all petrol cars combined

The Porsche Taycan is one of the very best electric cars on the market, but also one of the most expensive. In the Netherlands you have to bring at least 89,200 euros to take one home. The top model of the Taycan series, the Turbo S, even costs at least 191,700 euros. And yet the four-door plug-in sports car is very popular. It is the best-selling Porsche in the Netherlands. Worldwide, the Taycan only has to leave the Cayenne and the Macan ahead.

In Norway, 90 percent of new cars had a plug last year

Norway is well on its way to relegating the fuel car to the history books. Last year, almost 90 percent of new cars sold had a plug. In the first month of 2022, the entire top 20 best-selling models were all electric. Only the Toyota RAV4 managed to squeeze in as a hybrid. The Audi Q4 E-Tron is the most popular, followed by the Hyundai Ioniq 5, BMW iX, Skoda Enyaq and Volkswagen ID.4.

More Porsche Taycan copies sold than all petrol cars combined

In total, 7,957 new cars were registered in Norway in January. Only 387 of these have a petrol or diesel engine and no hybrid support (175 petrol, 212 diesel). That means that in the past month there were more Norwegians who bought a Porsche Taycan (181) than a petrol car. The market share of fully electric cars rose to 83.7 percent. Plug-in hybrids come in at 6.8 percent and regular hybrids at 4.7 percent.
