Most third-party apps offer support for Apple Intelligence functions, but Instagram and Facebook do not seem to choose that.
Instagram and Facebook block Apple Intelligence
Apple Intelligence was announced with iOS 18 and has been available in many places in the world since October last year. Then Apple released iOS 18.1 to the general public. Although most apps offer standard support for Apple Intelligence functions, developers can also choose not to have them in their apps. It seems that Meta has decided not to allow Apple Intelligence in Instagram, Facebook and other apps.
According to the Brazilian blog Sorcererhat Techare functions such as writing aid (Writing Tools) – with which you can make text, change and test reading – no longer available in Meta’s apps, including Facebook, WhatsApp and Threads.
Normally, iPhone and iPad users have access to writing aid by tapping a text field. However, this option is not available in Meta’s iOS apps. Users cannot make and share Genmoji with Meta apps (Apple’s adapted emoji that are generated by AI). The report notes that Meta has also removed the possibility of adding memoji and stickers to Instagram Stories. That is something that was previously possible.

Meta has announced nothing about why Apple Intelligence is not available in iOS apps such as Facebook and Instagram. Meta probably wants to motivate users to Meta AI To be used instead of alternatives such as Apple Intelligence. Meta AI is available in almost all Meta apps and with that you can also make and change text, and generate images.

Llama, Meta’s AI language model, could possibly be added to Apple Intelligence. But Apple decided to delete the deal because it did not agree with Meta’s privacy policy.
