More users, more data and more online videos. Last year it became very clear again how important the internet is for us. More and more aspects of our lives are influenced by online services, and for this a strong internet connection is essential. International Internet Day 2023 will be celebrated on October 29.

Lo’ – that was the short and simple first message sent over the Internet. The message was sent on October 29, 1969 and was the first test of the then new phenomenon. The goal was to connect the University of California with the Stanford Research Institute in the United States. It took two attempts to successfully send the original message. On the first attempt, the connection was lost after the first two letters were entered, resulting in ‘Lo’. A few minutes later the problem was resolved and the entire word – ‘Login’ – was sent successfully.

Today’s global data connections have to do much more. The world wide web has become indispensable in both professional and private environments. Office work, working from home, video telephony, online gaming, home theater with streaming and much more: the internet is everywhere.

Strong growth
The International Communications Union (ITU) also confirms this in a recent study. The specialized agency of the United Nations predicts that approximately 5.4 billion people will use the Internet this year. This means that 67 percent of the world’s population is connected to the web, a growth of 45 percent since 2018.
Data traffic is also growing at a rapid pace. An analysis by web experts shows that global data traffic will increase by as much as 23 percent in 2022 compared to the previous year. What most of us do online turns out to be streaming videos. This accounts for about 65 percent of all that traffic.

Increasing demands
On October 29, 1969, we probably never imagined that today we would be able to stream videos in 4K resolution worldwide and all day long without any stuttering. This rapid development emphasizes the high demands we place on network technology today. Older equipment is quickly becoming outdated in today’s households, where people are simultaneously video conferencing, streaming music or movies, and gaming online.
A home router can sometimes lose its power, especially when devices are connected wirelessly. This is due to the growing number of WiFi-enabled devices and obstacles such as walls, ceilings, furniture and even water pipes, which slow down WiFi signals.

Easy network upgrade
You can equip your house with a strong home network without having to reach for the heavy tools. Latest generation plug-and-play solutions, such as WiFi repeaters and WiFi powerline adapters, solve the problems in your home network. The repeaters are very suitable for apartments and short distances. If the WiFi signal needs to reach further or several floors of a single-family home, powerline adapters are the right choice. For example, WiFi is available throughout the house, with connection speeds that can meet the demands of the internet of the future.
In addition to WiFi repeaters and WiFi powerline adapters from, for example, devolo, there are also powerful router solutions from, for example, Netgear.
