In iOS 18.6 there are few innovations anyway. Many of the new functions of iOS 18 have already been rolled out. For users in Europe, it becomes easier in iOS 18.6 to install apps via alternative web stores and browsers.

After iOS 18.6 is iOS 26?

In September there will be many new functions to your iPhone, because then Apple will release iOS 26. It is about the biggest update in years, with a new interface and more functions for the iPhone.

Instead of the usual numbering as we saw it in recent years, Apple has decided this year not to continue with iOS 19, but to switch to iOS 26. This also applies to other operating systems such as Watchos, MacOS, TVOS and Visionos.

The reason for this unexpected change is simple: Apple wants to create more overview and clarity. By giving all operating systems the same number, based on the year in which they are active, the company hopes to prevent confusion.

This is when iOS 18.6 appears

Apple has not yet announced the official release of iOS 18.6, but we can make a good estimate of when the update will be available. The company follows a similar timeline for the release of new software versions every year.

Last year iOS 17.6 was released on July 29, in 2023 iOS 16.6 came on July 24 and in 2022 iOS 15.6 was available from July 20. It is likely that iOS 18.6 can also be installed on your iPhone around the same period. The iOS 18.6 Bèta 3 appeared on July 14, so it can’t be long!
