Getting started with ABN internet banking
If you want to start internet banking at ABN AMRO, you can request this via the ABN AMRO website. You can also call Customer Service (0900-00 24, € 0.10 per minute) or go to an ABN AMRO branch. After applying, you will receive the contract for signature. If you sign and return this contract, you will receive the so-called ‘e.dentifier’ (card reader) at home approximately two working days later. From that moment on you can get started with internet banking.
E.dentifier
To be able to do internet banking at ABN AMRO, you need an e.dentifier. This is a device that reads your bank card when you insert the card. After entering your PIN in the e.dentifier, you will be given a code that you can enter on the internet banking website. This is how you log in to the website and you get access to your account(s).
There are two versions of the e.dentifier. With the e.dentifier1, you have to enter the codes yourself on the e.dentifier and on the website. With the new version, the e.dentifier2, this is partly automatic, because you can connect it to the computer with a USB cable. If you connect the e.dentifier2 to your computer, you will have a special program required. Follow the instructions carefully this page to download and install the program. The e.dentifier2 has a large screen and is therefore also suitable for users with less good visibility.
If you start online banking soon, you will automatically receive the e.dentifier2. If you already do online banking with ABN AMRO, you can also use the e.dentifier2 to request. You pay € 7.95 for this.
Step 1: Log in
ABN AMRO currently offers two login options. One is via the e.dentifier; the other via a self-selected five-digit identification code. You indicate which one you prefer.
- Go to the ABN AMRO website, www.abnamro.nl.
- Click on the button on the left, next to the block ‘Internet Banking’ Login.
You now have the choice of two options: log in with e.deniefier or with identification code. We discuss both options:
With e.dentifier
- Click under ‘e.dentifier’ on log in.
- Choose which e.dentifier you want to log in with.
- Have you connected the e.dentifier2 to your computer with a USB cable? In that case you do not need to enter your account number and card number.
- Enter your account number and card number. Then click on the box under ‘Enter the response.’
- Insert the bank card into the e.dentifier.
- If you use e.dentifier1, first enter your PIN code. Then enter the given code on the website on this and press the button OK on your e.dentifier. You then re-enter the answer from the e.dentifier1 on the website.
- If you have connected the e.dentifier2 to the computer with a USB cable, your account number will be recognized automatically. The codes are sent back and forth between the e.dentifier and the website, so you don’t have to type any codes. You just enter your PIN and confirm the other codes.

- click on Next one.
