iOS 15.2 Beta 3: New Camera Feature, Apple Music Search & More

Apple has released the third test version (beta) of iOS 15.2. The third beta doesn’t add as many new features as the previous betas, but there are also notable changes this time around.

iOS 15.2 beta 3

The new iOS 15.2 is a major interim update. Certainly the second beta of iOS 15.2 was packed with interesting new iPhone features. Think, for example, of Digital Inheritance, where after your death your inheritance contacts gain access to the files of your iPhone, such as your photos. Also notable is a feature in the Find My app, where you scan for AirTags that may be following you.

In the third beta, the changes are less significant, but Apple has made some changes again.

1. Macro mode

iOS 15.2 Beta 3: New Camera Feature, Apple Music Search & More

The iPhone 13 Pro has a great camera feature: the macro mode. Here you focus on the subject from very close by. If the iPhone senses that a subject is close to the lens, the Camera app automatically switches to macro mode, where the close-up is shot with the ultra-wide angle lens.

This automatic switching can sometimes be a nuisance. Sometimes a subject is close, but you prefer the wide-angle lens. You can then turn off the macro mode, but this must be done in the Settings app. As of iOS 15.2, there is the option to enable or disable macro mode from within the Camera app. At ‘Settings>Camera’ you will find a new option: ‘Macro Control’. When you turn it on, you’ll see a flower-shaped icon in the Camera app. Tapping this activates the macro mode.

2. Search playlist in Music app

Is your Apple Music library full of playlists? Then it is always a matter of searching to find the right one. From iOS 15.2, you can navigate to it much faster, because Apple adds a search function. The search function can be found at the top of the ‘Library’ tab.

3. Tags in Memories

Since iOS 15, you can add tags in the Reminders app. It’s a way to categorize your memories. If you tag all your memories related to your holiday with the #holiday tag, these memories will be collected on a separate tag page.

Adding and removing tags now takes a lot of time, but in iOS 15.2 this becomes easier. There, Apple adds the ability to bulk rename and delete tags.

When will iOS 15.2 be available?

The official release of iOS 15.2 will probably take a while. Since Apple is on a weekly cycle for new beta versions and new features are added all the time, we expect it to be a few more weeks. Also because there are still some bugs present. For example, streaming in the Music app can lead to very high CPU usage, which drains the battery quickly. There are also issues with adding a vaccination certificate to the Wallet app.
