The new earplugs

It doesn’t matter how carefully you take care of your belongings: the chances that you have left your AirPods lying around are quite high. Fortunately, iOS 15, in combination with an October update, has the solution.
The operating system ensures that the Find Myapp notifies you when you forget your AirPods. That’s great, because you won’t forget them anymore! This article provides a detailed description of how you can achieve this.
iOS 15: Warning about your AirPods
When certain products get away from you, the Find My-app is able to send a notification. This will give you a warning from the system that you are going to forget something. That is the case, for example, with the Apple AirTags and now also with the AirPods. The wireless earbuds are a great success and incredibly easy to use. But we can agree that they lend themselves perfectly to getting rid of.
Due to the functionality Notification if left behind the danger does not become less great, but the chance is smaller that you can no longer find them. It’s a feature that I wouldn’t enable at home, but I can recommend it for times when you’re in public places. Fortunately it is possible Find Mynetwork will do this completely automatically and mark your home address as a trusted location. Long story short: it’s a damn useful functionality.

You just need to know how to get started.
Is my iPhone running on iOS 15?
First, you need to be sure of two things: your iPhone must be running on iOS 15 and your AirPods must have the correct firmware. As far as the first one is concerned, we don’t need to explain to many people how exactly you do this. There is a good chance that you have received a notification about a software update. If you still want to check whether you have the correct software, follow the following steps on your iPhone:
- Go to Settings
- Choose General
- Select Info
- Under the name of your smartphone is Software version
- The number behind it (if correct 15.2) is the version your iPhone has.
If you have not yet switched to iOS 15 and do you want to? Then go to Settings -> General -> Software Update.
The right AirPods firmware
Carrying out an update for your AirPods is a bit more difficult than on your iPhone. For example, it is not possible to directly download and install the most recent software. However, it is possible to force an update. This way you put your AirPods back in the charging case, take them out again and reconnect with your iPhone. Chances are the earbuds will update.
You can of course check whether your earplugs are equipped with the correct firmware. As mentioned, that update was already rolled out in October, so there is a good chance that your earbuds run on the correct operating system. To check it, follow these steps:
- Connect your AirPods to your iPhone
- Open Settings
- Select General
- Choose the option Info
- Then press AirPods
as behind firmware version 4A400 (or higher), then you’re good.
Activate separate notifications in iOS 15
Top. You are now running iOS 15 and your AirPods have the correct firmware version. Now you have all the ingredients to make sure you get the Find My-feature. You do that as follows:
- Open the Find Myapp on your iPhone or iPad
- Select you AirPods off the list
- Swipe the menu from bottom to top until you see the section notifications sees
- Click there on the option Notification if left
- Then turn on the functionality by turning the slider to green

Voila! Every time you leave your AirPods somewhere, your iPhone gives a notification. By the way, keep in mind that you Find Myapp must have permission to send you notifications. If you’re not sure if that’s the case, check it out to Settings -> Notifications -> Find My to go.
This is how you select a safe place
As indicated earlier in the article, it is possible not to receive notifications in certain places. I can imagine it’s frustrating that you get notifications when you’re just at home. So you can set that in the Find My-app under the heading Notification if left. below SEND ME ANY NOTICE EXCEPT HERE do you see a blue text with New location to stand.

Click on that functionality and add the location.
