On June 6, Apple will present iOS 16 at the annual WWDC. In this article you can read everything about the devices that receive an update to iOS 16.
iOS 16 for your iPhone and other Apple devices
Exactly one year ago, Apple released iOS 15. This update had few innovations and that was a shame. This year, that seems to be about to change. Multiple analysts have been giving us different clues about iOS 16 lately.
In addition, Apple surprised us during the WWDC of 2021. When it turned out that iOS 15 also had support for old models, such as the iPhone 6S or the iPhone SE from 2016. Knowing that, we can now predict which devices will run on iOS 16.
These devices get iOS 16
iOS doesn’t necessarily run on specific devices, but on the chips in your device. That is why we can cautiously conclude that the iPhone 6S and the SE (2016) will unfortunately not reach iOS 16. Both run on an outdated A9 chip.
On the other hand, we think that the iPhone 7 will get an update. We still find the A10 chip in Apple devices from 2019. Apple is not going to stop support for that cip any time soon. Good news for iPhone 7 owners! The following devices will receive the update to iOS 16:
- iPhone SE 2022
- iPhone 13
- iPhone 13 mini
- iPhone 13 Pro Max
- iPhone 13 Pro
- iPhone 12
- iPhone 12 mini
- iPhone 12 Pro
- iPhone 12 Pro Max
- iPhone SE 2020
- iPhone 11 Pro
- iPhone 11 Pro Max
- iPhone 11
- iPhone XS Max
- iPhone XR
- iPhone X
- iPhone 8 Plus
- iPhone 8
- iPhone 7 Plus
- iPhone 7
In addition, not only iPhones get an iOS update. Apple’s Studio Display will also get an update. It may sound a bit strange, a monitor with software. The Studio Display ensures that you can still enjoy the latest functions on an older Mac. Think of center point and Spatial Audio. This new Studio Display will also receive an update.
If all Apple devices with the A10 chip receive an update, we also expect the iPod touch (7th generation) to receive the update. That is of course good news for fans of this MP3 player. It was recently announced that Apple is removing the last iPod (touch) from its range.
This is all new in iOS 16
There will be many new features in iOS 16. Think of new notifications and new features in some Apple apps. In Messages come ‘social media-like functionalities’, especially around audio messages. There will also be a new lock screen (with widgets). In addition, we see updates to the System Preferences with macOS and improved multitasking with iPadOS.
