iOS 16: these 5 functionalities will have to wait a little longer this fall

During WWDC 2022 it became clear what iOS 16 will bring you later this year. The update will most likely be available for your iPhone from Fall 2022. Although not all functionalities seem to be ready at that time.

Unfortunately, there are a number of improvements and features that Apple announced early this month, but are taking longer than the rest. We list five of these for you in this article.

#1 Live Activities on the lock screen

Your iPhone’s lock screen is going to be completely overhauled. Thanks to iOS 16, you can not only set it completely to your liking, but you can also use widgets. Think of the Conditionapp, the battery percentage of your AirPods or Live Activities† Where those first two are readily available in the fall, late Live Activities waiting.

This widget displays, for example, the current state of sports competitions or the waiting time of your Uber on the screen. Ideal, but it still requires a little patience.

#2 iOS 16: Freeform

With the introduction of Freeform it becomes a lot easier to collaborate with other people. It is a joint project that several users can work on, combined with an iMessage or FaceTime call. Useful for creating sketches, remote brainstorming sessions, or modifying previous ideas.

Apple itself is very pleased with the functionality, but is taking a chance. The company expects to launch the iOS 16 feature later this year.

#3 SharePlay in the Game Center

Through SharePlay Since iOS 15, it has been possible to enjoy content remotely with friends and family. For example, during a FaceTime call, you can enjoy Apple TV+ or Apple Music and also relinquish control. With iOS 16, Apple wants to go even further and introduce the functionality for Game Center† A handy way to play games together during a FaceTime call.

However, that functionality still needs a little more time than the rest. So it will take some time before you as a consumer can get started with it.

#4 iOS 16: Matter Support

The support for Matter ensures that you can control (almost) all smart devices in your home via your Apple devices. To put it more simply, regardless of platform, it works incredibly well together.

However, it does take some time to realize such a standard. The announcement took a while and so did the eventual support. Matter will not be available immediately at the launch of iOS 16, or any new operating system for that matter.

#5 The next generation CarPlay

One of the big announcements of WWDC 2022 was surely the next generation CarPlay† This new version is no longer limited to just one screen and therefore also takes over the dashboard of cars. One that you can set completely to your own liking. Nice, but something you can’t get started with right away.

In addition to the fact that you will most likely need a new car to be able to do this, Apple is also working on the function for a while. The next generation CarPlay will not appear until 2023.
