A week after the second beta, Apple released iOS 17.5 beta 3 for developers. These are the innovations.
iOS 17.5 beta 3 is out
Developers and interested testers can install beta 3 by going to ‘Software Update’ in the Settings app via ‘General’, tapping the ‘Beta Updates’ option and checking the iOS 17 Developer Beta. An Apple ID associated with a developer account is required to download and install the beta. Other users can expect the update around mid-May, shortly before the announcement of iOS 18 and after the presentation of the new iPads.

Most of the features Apple announced for iOS 17 are now available, but iOS 17.5 beta 3 adds additional changes to the app ecosystem in the European Union. App developers can now offer apps not only via alternative app stores, but also directly from their website to users for download on their iPhone. There is also a new Quartiles game and Game Center Leaderboard integration for Apple News+, but unfortunately this does not apply to the Netherlands.
Furthermore, minor adjustments have been made to the user interface of Books, Podcasts and Settings. Code in iOS 17.5 beta 3 also hints at an upcoming anti-stalking feature. When ready, this feature should automatically detect trackers powered by Google’s Find My Device network, especially when tracking iPhone users.
It is currently unclear whether iOS 17.5 beta 3 contains any more notable changes. Aside from removing bugs and improving the overall experience, the third beta may not bring any real new features to users. As soon as we discover anything else, we will share it here.
iPadOS 17.5 beta 3
The same innovations of iOS 17.5 also apply to iPadOS 17.5 beta 3, except for the functions surrounding alternative app stores and sideloading. There are also code changes in iPadOS 17.5 beta 3 that indicate a new Apple Pencil and a battery health function for the iPad. We expect new iPads and a new Apple Pencil during the Apple event on May 7.
