Apple has released the first test version of iOS 17.6! These new features come to your iPhone with iOS 17.6 beta 1.
iOS 17.6 beta 1
A new trial version of iOS is available for your iPhone! Apple has released iOS 17.6 beta 1 for developers. This means that Apple is currently testing two new software versions, because iOS 18 beta 1 has been available since WWDC. Do you have a dedicated developer account with Apple? Then you can only install one of the two betas on your iPhone.

It is still unclear what changes will come to your iPhone with the update. This is the last interim update of iOS 17 before Apple releases the final version of iOS 18. All features that Apple announced for iOS 17 have now been released. For example, NameDrop, Diary and the new standby mode all came to your iPhone with this generation of iOS. It is therefore expected that iOS 17.6 beta 1 will not bring any new features.
Release of iOS 17.6
Apple is likely using the new test version to make improvements to iOS 17.6. It will therefore be a small update, for new functions we have to wait for the final version of iOS 18. With iOS 16.6, Apple mainly implemented bug fixes in 2023, of which it only became known later which improvements they were exactly. Apple does not provide any further explanation in the description of iOS 17.6 beta 1.
We probably won’t have to wait long for the official release of iOS 17.6. Last year, iOS 16.6 was released on July 24. There’s a good chance we’ll see iOS 17.6 around the same date this year. That has to be the case, because iOS 18 will follow not long after. It is quite possible that we will receive another interim update after this, for example, Apple also released iOS 16.6.1 in September 2023. The company only does this to immediately solve major software problems.
iOS 18 already announced
iOS 17.6 beta 1 will not bring any major changes to your iPhone. It is not expected that later test versions will contain new functions. That is not surprising, because Apple has already announced iOS 18 at WWDC 2024. It will be the biggest update for your iPhone ever by introducing Apple Intelligence. iOS 18 marks the first large-scale use of artificial intelligence.

Unfortunately, iOS 17.6 doesn’t have beta 1 yet Apple Intelligence, for that we have to wait for iOS 18.
