After iOS 18.2 has just been released, Apple has made the first beta of iOS 18.3 available. But are there also new functions?
iOS 18.3 beta 1 is out
iOS 18.2 has only just been released and the next beta is already ready. At this time, the update is only available to developers. Any iPhone running iOS 18 can download and install the update. But you must have a developer account and be registered for the beta.
No new features, but bug fixes
Unfortunately, there are no new features this time. In fact, the description shows no changes at all. The description for developers states that a number of errors are being resolved. For example, a bug in Genmoji and a number of problems with the writing tools have been fixed.
Apple plans to make more Apple Intelligence features available in upcoming updates to iOS 18.3. These will likely be improvements for Siri. You’ll have to wait a little longer for the final release. iOS 18.3 and iPadOS 18.3 will be available sometime around the end of January.
Apple Intelligence: not yet for everyone
Apple is launching numerous new features under the name Apple Intelligence. But these features are only available on the iPhone 15 Pro ($1,029) and newer.
In addition, the functions do not currently work in the EU. Apple points to the European Union’s Digital Markets Act for this. Apple Intelligence will not be released in the Netherlands and Belgium until April 2025.
Despite these limitations, the new tools are a lot of fun. Below is an overview of the best features:
- Image Playground: A brand new app that lets you create your own images based on text prompts;
- Image Wall: Allows you to add images in the Notes app based on what you’ve written. On an iPad it is even possible to make a sketch with the Apple Pencil and use Image Wand to make something more beautiful;
- Genmoji: Why choose from existing emojis when you can create your own? Give a description, and voilà : your own unique emoji is born.
