iOS 18.4 is coming this week – this will change on your iPhone

Now that Apple has distributed the second release candidate of iOS 18.4, the release notes of the update have also been public since this week.

iOS 18.4 is coming to your iPhone this week

There is, among other things, an Apple Vision Pro app, there are new ones Apple Intelligence-Functions for reports and extra language support, plus various updates that must improve the functionality of the photos app on your iPhone. The release notes from Apple can be found below.

Apple Intelligence: all iPhone 16 models, iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max (unfortunately not yet in the Netherlands)

• Reports with priority are displayed on top of your other reports, so that you immediately see which reports you require immediate attention.
• Sketch is now available as an extra style option in Image Playground, with which you can make beautiful sketch drawings.
• The Apple Intelligence functions support extra languages, including English (India, Singapore), French (France, Canada), German (Germany), Italian (Italy), Japanese (Japan), Korean (South Korea), Portuguese (Brazil), simplified Chinese and Spain, Latin-America, Latin, Latin, Latin, Latin, Latin, Latin, America).

Apple Vision Pro app

• With the new Apple Vision Pro app, which is automatically installed for users with an Apple Vision Pro, you can discover new content and spatial experiences and you have quick access to information about your device.

Photos app

• New filters to show or hide items that are not in an album or are synchronized from a Mac or PC in the library display.
• Rearify items on media types.
• Consistent filter options in all collections, including the possibility to sort on the oldest or newest first.
• Option to sort albums by date changed.
• Possibility of ‘recently viewed’ and ‘recently shared’.
• Hidden photos are no longer included when importing to a Mac or PC if ‘use Face ID’ is enabled.

Other improvements and bug fixes

• Recent search suggestions in Safari help you quickly return to earlier search topics if you start a new search.
• Setup assistant streamlines the steps that parents have to take to create a children’s account for a child in their family, and calls in child-oriented standard settings if parents want to finish a children’s account later.
• Screen time Applimites continue to exist even after a child removes and reinstalls an app.
• App Store contains summaries of user reviews so that you get useful insights from other users at a glance.
• Pause and resume an app download or update in the App Store without losing the progress.
• New widgets for podcasts, including a Shops Widget followed to follow your favorite shows and a library widget to go to your most used sections, such as last episodes, stored and downloaded
• Background music (Ambient Music) offers the possibility to immediately play music from the control panel, giving you access to playlists.
• Apple Fitness+collections can now be added to the library.
• Matter-compatible robot vacuum cleaners can be operated in the Home app and added to scenes and automation.
• Support for ten new system languages, including Bangla, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Odia, Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu and Urdu.

We expect iOS 18.4 this week

Apple has said that iOS 18.4 will in any case come in April. That means that the first option is Tuesday 1 April. We do expect the update to iOS 18.4 this week. As soon as iOS 18.4 is there, you naturally read it immediately iPhoned!
