There’s a new update out for your iPhone. Beta 5 for iOS 18 brings a bunch of new features and a few changes. Here’s what’s different!
iOS 18 beta 5 is out – here’s what’s new
In this new beta for iOS 18, Apple has packed a number of new features. The company has also been tinkering with several smaller components. Here are the most important changes.
Photos app
In almost every new beta, Apple has tinkered with the Photos app. But this time, Apple has removed a feature. When viewing the photos overview, in the previous beta you could browse through different collections by swiping. This feature disappeared in iOS 18 beta 5.
Hide distracting parts
Safari did get a new feature in iOS 18 beta 5. This new feature is called ‘Hide Distractions’. This allows you to remove parts of a website. It’s not an option to permanently remove a part, but more of a way to temporarily remove something.
You can do this by opening the menu at the top left in Safari. Then select ‘Hide distracting parts’ in the menu. Then tap on the parts you want to remove in the opened website. With a tap on ‘Hide’ the image disappears (with a kind of ‘Thanos snap’ animation).
Customize Home Screen
The Home screen has also received some changes in iOS 18 beta 5. When you long-press an empty spot on the Home screen, you can tap ‘Edit’ at the top left. There you will now find a new option called ‘Edit pages’. This allows you to customize the pages with apps. The option is the same setting when you tap the three dots on the Home screen.
Dark Mode
Apple also updated some icons for Dark Mode. The Maps app icon is now black, white, gray, and blue (with no other colors). The Find My icon has some different shades of green.
If you search for an app using the search function in dark mode, the app will also be shown in the mode. Previously, in dark mode, you would also see the icons of light mode.
More small changes
There are many more small changes in iOS 18 beta 5. For example, several icons are slightly different. For example, the Mirroring icon now has a lighter frame, and the Screen Recording icon is also slightly different.
