We have only just switched to iOS 17, but Apple is already working on iOS 18. It seems that iOS 18 will have many AI functions.
iOS 18 mainly gets AI functions
Usually reliable Apple expert Mark Gurman says in his recent newsletter that Apple has many AI features in store for iOS 18 on your iPhone. This also includes a new version of Siri.
In the newsletter he also says that Apple was a bit overwhelmed by the enormous growth of AI. And that since last year the company has been trying to make up for lost time as quickly as possible.
John Giannandrea, senior vice president of machine learning at Apple, is monitoring developments in the new AI system. According to Gurman, his team is also working on a new and improved version of Siri. This variant of Siri uses more AI functions and could be introduced in iOS 18 next year.
One of the new features is better collaboration between Siri and the Messages app. This makes the autocomplete function a lot better and Siri can then answer difficult questions (even better). In the background, the team is also working on letting AI help write certain Xcode (Apple’s programming language).
AI: also a lot in apps
Apple also plans to incorporate AI into as many apps as possible. For example, think of Apple Music for automatically generating playlists. Or apps like Pages where AI can be used to write your texts faster. Apple is also rumored to be looking at using AI in their Apple Care apps.
Furthermore, Gurman has previously said that Apple is working on its own version of ChatGPT. Some developers even call this Apple chatbot Apple GPT.
When will iOS 18 be released?
All those new features with AI are nice, but we still have to wait a while for iOS 18. The new version of the operating system will not be officially released until around September 2024. You can of course already get started with the various beta versions. You can read more about this on iPhoned!
