Siri in iOS 19
Apple will soon announce iOS 19! On Monday, June 9, 2025, Apple presents the largest software update of the year for the iPhone. It is expected that Apple will make major changes, because the company adjusts the interface of the operating system for the first time since iOS 7. That is not all, because rumors predict that iOS 19 will finally release you from Siri with a new institution.
With iOS 19, it becomes possible for the first time to set a speech assistant other than Siri on your iPhone. That predicts the usually reliable Apple analyst Mark Gurman. He expects that later this year you can finally choose a different voice assistant on the iPhone, iPad and Mac (book) than Siri. Now that is not yet possible, which means that you as an Apple user depend on Siri. With iOS 19 that changes.
Alternative speech assistant
With iOS 19, the new institution will at least be available for users in the European Union, so that we can choose a different voice assistant than Siri in the Netherlands and Belgium. This is the result of European legislation, which requires Apple to open certain systems to third parties. Because of these regulations you can now install alternative web stores on your iPhone and adjust the standard apps on your iPhone.
In addition, with iOS 19 there is another institution, which makes it possible to exchange Siri for another voice assistant. Users in the European Union can therefore opt for Amazon Alexa or the Google Assistant, while that is not yet possible for Apple users. This would mean a major change, especially now that Apple has many problems improving Siri with the help of artificial intelligence.
Siri 2.0 postponed again
Apple recently announced that the improved version of Siri was postponed in the United States. This new version of Siri is being expanded with new language models and can perform multiple tasks in succession. The voice assistant is therefore much more advanced, but Apple has not yet succeeded in implementing these improvements. The fact that the English version of Siri 2.0 has been postponed means that we have to wait even longer in the Netherlands and Belgium for the renewed version of the speech assistant.
It is therefore good news that Apple adds an institution in iOS 19, which makes it possible to install an alternative to Siri on the iPhone.
