No iOS 19 in 2025
The WWDC 2025 has started! Apple has now announced the largest software updates of the year. For a long time it was expected that Apple would present iOS 19 on Monday 9 June, but it is now clear that that software version is definitively gone. Where iOS 18 appeared in 2024, Apple made the move to iOS 26 this year. Instead of iOS 19, iOS 26 is coming to your iPhone this year.
With the adjusted numbering, Apple refers to 2026, the year in which the software will mainly be used. In this way it must become clearer when the update has been released. For the same reason, Apple has chosen to change the naming of all other operating systems. In addition to iOS 19, there are therefore even more software versions off the track. These updates will appear
For a long time, in addition to iOS 19, Apple would also release iPados 19, Watchos 12, MacOS 16, TVOS 19 and Visionos 3 this year. Now it appears that these software versions do not definitively appear in 2025. Apple has adjusted the numbering with all operating systems to create more unity between the software. That is why Apple is publishing the following updates this year:
- iOS 26
- iPados 26
- Watchos 26
- MacOS 26
- TVOS 26
- Visionos 26
Until now, the version numbers of macOS, Watchos and iOS ran quite apart, making it difficult to see which versions belong together. From this year that should become clearer. All operating systems therefore make the leap to 26 in one go. Incidentally, naming is not the only way Apple creates unity between the systems, because the company has also introduced a uniform design. Almost all operating systems therefore have the same design.
Release of iOS 26
Instead of iOS 19, iPados 19, Watchos 12, MacOS 16, TVOS 19 and Visionos 3, we see this year iOS 26, iPados 26, Watchos 26, MacOS 26, TVOS 26 and Visionos 26. All software versions are equipped with a similar interface. Apple introduces Liquid Glass, making frameworks and menus transparent from glass. It is the first time that Apple adjusts the design of all operating systems at the same time.
We still have to wait a while for iOS 26, because Apple only releases the final update in September. That month the company presents the iPhone 17, followed by the official release of all software updates.
