iPad 2022 vs iPad 2025: these are the most important differences

Apple has released a new entry model of the iPad. But what are the differences between the iPad 2025 and the previous one from 2022?

If you look at the iPad 2025, it looks a lot like the previous iPad from 2022. It has the same shape and even the colors are the same. Yet there are a few differences between the two entry models. You can read here exactly what upgrades the iPad 2025 received here!

New chip

One of the most important differences between the iPad 2022 and iPad 2025 is the new chip. Where the iPad 2022 still had an A14 chip, the iPad 2025 has now received an A16 chip. It is almost the same chip that is also in the iPhone 14 Pro, the iPhone 14 Pro Max, the iPhone 15 and the iPhone 15 Plus.

That ensures that this iPad is a bit smoother than the previous version. But we doubt whether you will notice a lot in practice. It is important to know that this chip has no support for Apple Intelligence. For that you really have to go to the iPad Mini 2024, the iPad Air 2022 (or newer) or an iPad Pro 2021 (and newer).

More storage, more choice

There are also differences in storage with the iPad 2025. The standard version of the iPad 2025 has received a doubling of the storage space. The iPad 2022 had 64 GB and the iPad 2025 now has 128 GB storage.

In addition, you now also have more choice with the iPad 2025. With the iPad 2022 you could choose from a version with 64 GB or 256 GB. In addition to 128 GB and 256 GB, the iPad 2025 now also has an option for 512 GB.

Cheaper (with more storage)

The iPad 2022 initially had a suggested retail price 589 euros. That was later reduced by Apple to 409 euros. The iPad 2025 now also has 409 euros as a suggested retail price, but you will therefore get more storage.

If we look a little further at the iPad 2025 with even more storage, we will see a suggested retail price of 539 euros for the 256 GB version. This version had a price tag of 579 euros with the iPad 2022.

More small differences

There are a few small things differently with the iPad 2025. For example, the newest entry-level with cellular no longer has a physical SIM card. You then only have access to a digital ESIM. This can cause problems because not every Dutch provider has Esim’s in their offer.

One of the other differences is that the iPad 2025 also has a slightly newer version of Bluetooth. The iPad 2025 has Bluetooth 5.3 (at the iPad 2022 this was still Bluetooth 5.2). In practice you probably don’t notice much of it, but it’s good that you now get the latest version.

Are you now looking for a budget-iPad? Then the iPad 2025 is definitely worth considering. The differences with the iPad 2022 are not very large and the street prices are also very close together. You better choose the latest iPad, because that also gives you support for the latest iPados version.

Do you still have an iPad 2022? Then it is best to wait a generation. Also owners of an iPad 2021 who do not (yet) have to find Face ID and find the iPad soon enough can let this new budget-iPad pass by.
