The entry-level iPad is getting an interesting upgrade this year, it seems. According to the latest rumors, the iPad 2022 will be equipped with a larger display, an A14 chip, a USB-c port and 5G.
Rumors about iPad 2022
Apple releases a new entry-level iPad almost every year. It’s not the most advanced, but its affordable price of $389 makes it the most popular iPad out there. This year, the tablet is already waiting for its tenth update.
With the tenth generation iPad, Apple seems to want to unpack with many innovations. This reports news site 9to5Mac based on reliable sources. For example, the iPad 2022 would have a USB-c port, instead of Lightning. This means that USB-c will soon be available on all iPads, because the iPad Pro, iPad Air and iPad mini preceded the ‘regular’ iPad.
That USB-C connection has a few advantages. For example, a higher data transfer rate, and the connector supports more peripherals. This way you can easily connect the iPad to an external display or digital camera.
Bigger screen for iPad 2022
It looks like the iPad is getting a bigger screen. The sources of 9to5Mac count on a display of 10.5 or 10.9 inches. The screen diagonal of the current iPad (9th generation) measures 10.1 inches. Previously, trusted analyst Ross Young reported that the iPad will have a 10.5-inch display.
Under the hood, the iPad has an A14 Bionic chip. It was first used in the iPhone 12 and can also be found in the fourth-generation iPad Air. The iPad 2021 has a processor that is one generation older: the A13 Bionic chip. The A14 is about 30 percent faster. Apple also adds 5G support.
What is the iPad 2022 design?
It’s not yet known whether the entry-level iPad will get a more modern design, or whether Apple will stick with the old home button design for Touch ID. But as Apple moves to a bigger screen and new connector, a design change is likely.
The iPad 2022 may therefore get more modern looks, where the home button is missing and the edges around the screen are narrower. You probably still unlock it with Touch ID. The fingerprint scanner is then integrated into the on/off button – just like with the current iPad Air.
