iPad Pro 2024 vs Pro 2025: who is this switch interesting for?

Is the new iPad Pro 2025 interesting if you already have an iPad Pro 2024? We put them side by side to list the differences.

iPad Pro 2024 vs iPad Pro 2025

The iPad Pro 2025 is the successor to the iPad Pro 2024, so it will undoubtedly be a bit better. But how big are the differences exactly and is it worth making the switch?

At Apple you can now only buy the iPad Pro 2025. Prices there start from 1119 euros. It will be a while before you can find cheaper prices somewhere. The iPad Pro 2024 is of course now slightly cheaper. Prices currently start at €999.

Housing

Apple has not changed anything on the outside of the iPad Pro 2025 compared to the iPad Pro 2024. If you put them side by side, you will see no difference. They have the same sizes (11 inches and 13 inches) and are available in the same colors Silver and Space Black. All improvements of the iPad Pro 2025 can therefore be found on the inside.

Screen

We can also be brief about the screen, because Apple has not changed anything about it.

Camera

The same applies to the rear camera: there are no changes at all and that is also the case with the selfie camera.

Performance

Here we encounter the first major difference. The iPad Pro 2025 runs on the new M5 chip, while the iPad Pro 2024 has to make do with the M4 chip. In practice, this means that the new version is a lot faster than the previous one.

The amount of working memory increased in two cases. If you choose an iPad Pro 2025 with 256 GB or 512 GB of storage, you get 12 GB of RAM (which was 8 GB with the iPad Pro 2024). If you choose a model with 1 TB or 2 TB storage, you will always get 16 GB of RAM (which was already the case). According to Apple, the bandwidth of the working memory has also increased, meaning that read and write speeds are now also higher.

Battery

Nothing has changed about the battery. Both 13-inch iPad Pro models have a 10,290 mAh battery, while the 11-inch versions have an 8,160 mAh battery. The battery life is the same for all devices: with a full battery you can watch videos for up to 10 hours. What is new is that the battery of the iPad Pro 2025 versions supports fast charging. You can charge that battery to 50 percent in 35 minutes with a 60W or more adapter. That is not possible with the 2024 version.

Other differences

Other differences we still encounter are a C1X modem and an N1 chip. Thanks to the C1X modem, the iPad Pro 2025 is faster and more efficient when using a cellular connection, compared to the iPad Pro 2024. In addition, the N1 chip ensures that the iPad Pro 2025 now supports WiFi 7, where the iPad Pro 2024 is limited to WiFi 6E. This especially ensures better performance when you are connected to a 5 GHz network.

Conclusion

As you can see, the differences between the iPad Pro 2024 and the iPad Pro 2025 are not particularly large. It actually comes down to the new M5 chip, the N1 chip and the C1X modem, fast charging, and extra RAM if you choose 256 GB or 512 GB. The switch from the 2024 version to the 2025 version is therefore only interesting if you urgently need more speed. Since they are both lightning-fast tablets, that chance is not that great. If you have an older iPad Pro, the switch is of course a lot more interesting.
