Apple unveiled the iPhone 15 some time ago, making this the perfect time to buy an older iPhone. Previous models always drop significantly in price when Apple unveils a new iPhone. As a result, you now pay much less for an iPhone 14 and the price of the iPhone 13 has become even lower. For example, you now pay €768 for the iPhone 14 and only €664 for the iPhone 13.
The price is therefore a considerable difference, but in other areas the devices are virtually the same. For example, the iPhone 13 and the iPhone 14 have the A15 Bionic chip, although the processor in the iPhone 14 has been slightly improved. Inside: iPhone 14 is more advanced
Looking at the hardware, it’s no surprise that the iPhone 14 is more advanced. After all, it is a new phone than the iPhone 13, to which Apple has added functions such as SOS emergency notification and crash detection. These are features that you (hopefully) never need in practice, because you only need them in emergencies. You will hardly notice this difference in daily use of the telephones.
The iPhone 13 and iPhone 14 run on the A15 Bionic chip, which has been slightly improved on the iPhone 14. The difference is barely noticeable, both devices are extremely fast. In addition, the battery of the iPhone 14 lasts an hour longer and the device has a camera that lets in more light. This allows the iPhone 14 to take better photos under poor lighting conditions.
That is also the only difference regarding the camera, because both the iPhone 13 and the iPhone 14 only have 12-megapixel cameras. For a 48-megapixel camera you need the iPhone 14 Pro (Max) or iPhone 15. The iPhone 14 still distinguishes itself in terms of RAM, which is 6GB compared to 4GB RAM on the iPhone 13. This makes the iPhone 14 work slightly smoother, especially when switching between different apps.
From the outside: virtually no differences between the iPhones
Do you mainly look at the design of the iPhones? Then you hardly see any difference. Both phones have a 6.1-inch screen, aluminum casing and a glass back. The iPhone 14 has become slightly thicker, but the difference of 0.15 millimeters is actually negligible. The iPhone 13 also has slightly less rounded corners, but you won’t notice much of that either.
The big difference is in the colors of the devices. The iPhone 13 has been released in purple, blue, midnight (black), starlight (white), green and red. With the iPhone 14 you can choose from midnight, starlight, blue, purple, yellow and red. So the colors are the biggest difference between the phones in terms of design. It is of course your personal preference which design you like best.
Conclusion: which iPhone is best to buy?
The differences between the iPhone 13 and the iPhone 14 are extremely small, while you pay a lot more for the newer iPhone. It is therefore advisable to choose the iPhone 13, because it will quickly save you a lot of money. The iPhone 13 has almost the same features as the iPhone 14, so you won’t miss much if you choose the older model.
The advantage is that the iPhone 14 will probably have support for iOS updates for a year longer. However, you will still be in good hands with the iPhone 13 in the coming years, because Apple has been releasing updates for iPhones for years. You don’t really notice the small differences between the iPhone 13 and the iPhone 14 on a day-to-day basis, which makes the iPhone 13 highly recommended.
