We’ve got a new look at the iPhone 14’s selfie camera. It looks like it’s getting some major updates aimed primarily at FaceTime. Are you reading along?

Kuo: new sensor in selfie camera iPhone 14

The entire iPhone 14 line gets according to Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo a new selfie camera. After it has not received an update for two years, it is time for innovations around the front camera in the autumn of 2022.

According to these rumors, the diaphragm is going to get bigger. In addition, the camera finally gets a decent autofocus. In this article you can read what that means for your photos and video calls.

Apple focuses on the cameras of the iPhone 14

The selfie camera of the iPhone 14 line, according to Kuo, who is often right, probably has “autofocus” (AF in your Camera app). The front camera of the iPhone 13 still had the so-called fixed focus. In addition, the aperture is updated to f/1.9. The iPhone 13 selfie camera had ‘only’ an aperture of f/2.2.

The support for autofocus and the improved aperture ensure that photos you take with the selfie camera automatically have more depth. This is ideal for portrait photos of course. The larger aperture also captures more light, so you can also take better photos in the dark. Soon you will also be able to take selfies in, for example, a dark club. So you don’t have to light up your screen anymore.

It was previously leaked that the notch (Or: notch) on the front of the iPhone 14 is going to get a different design.

FaceTime benefits most from new selfie camera

Still, we think the focus of these improvements to the iPhone 14’s selfie camera is the depth effect on FaceTime. Improving the quality of these video calls was already highlighted at WWDC last year. Now Apple seems to be putting its words into action in its flagships.

iPhone 14 Max

Apple is tinkering with the photo and video quality of the iPhone 14. Earlier we heard that the iPhone 14 Pro (Max) will have a 21 percent larger camera sensor. In addition, we have already seen the camera islands grow. Apple is probably doing this to improve the rear cameras. We therefore expect to find a 48-megapixel camera in the new iPhone.
