Do you have an iPhone 15 and have been having problems with CarPlay since then? You are not alone! The new USB-C connection seems to cause connection problems. This is what’s going on.
CarPlay problems due to USB-C of iPhone 15
Some owners of the new iPhone 15 series – all models, including the Plus, Pro and Pro Max – have experienced unpleasant surprises when using CarPlay. Connecting can sometimes seem more like a lottery than a sure thing: sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t.
And even if it does work, you can suddenly be let down by a freezing interface. And this problem occurs across different car brands, so the fault is most likely related to the iPhone model. In other words, with the new USB-C connection of the iPhone 15 series.
Help cables or adapters
The USB-C connection of the iPhone 15 or the USB-C cable used seems to be the culprit of these stories. Some users found that switching the cable provided a temporary solution, while others were left scrambling even after trying several alternatives.

Using Apple’s official Lightning to USB-C adapter also does not have the desired effect for everyone. Apple itself suggests using a ‘compatible’ USB-C to USB-A cable, but exactly which cables these are remains a mystery. You would expect Apple’s own cable to be compatible, but it doesn’t work for everyone.
According to MacRumors there are also problems with wireless CarPlay connections, for example in combination with an active VPN. Apple probably needs to improve the software here too.

Move forward carefully
For now, it appears iPhone 15 users are in for a period of trial-and-error, experimenting with different cables and adapters to get their device and CarPlay to work well together. With a bit of luck, Apple may soon release a software update to fix these problems.
