Housing and screen
The iPhone 16th is not only better than the iPhone SE 2022, it is also larger and heavier: 146.7 x 71.5 x 7.8 mm and 167 g, compared to 138.4 x 67.3 x 7.3 mm and 144 g. In addition, the housing of the iPhone is 16th water-resistant according to the IP68 standard (6 meters for 30 minutes) and that of the iPhone SE 2022 according to the IP67 standard (1 meter for 30 minutes). If you jump with your iPhone quite adventurous, then you better choose the iPhone 16D.
Furthermore, the iPhone 16th has a 6.1-inch Super Retina XDR OLED screen and the iPhone SE 2022 a 4.7-inch Retina IPS LCD screen. Apart from the difference in size, the quality of the screen in the 16th has improved considerably compared to the SE 2022. This is also reflected in the resolution: 1170 x 2532 pixels for the 16th, 750 x 1334 pixels for the SE 2022. The brightness of the 16th screen is also a lot higher, which means that you can read this screen a lot better in all situations.
Processor
The new iPhone 16th has an A18 chip on board and that is a lot faster than the A15 Bionic chip that is in the iPhone SE 2022. The new chip is also more economical, which means that this gives the battery life a big boost.
Working memory and storage space
In terms of working memory, the difference could hardly be greater: the SE 2022 has 4 GB RAM and the 16th no less than 8 GB. That’s because 8 GB is a requirement for supporting Apple Intelligencesomething that Apple wanted to add on the 16th. So if you want to use Apple Intelligence when it becomes available in the Netherlands, then you have nothing to do with the iPhone SE 2022.
In addition, the iPhone 16th has more storage space. You can choose from 128, 256 and 512 GB. With the SE 2022 you can choose from 64, 128 and 256 GB.
Cameras
Here too, the differences can easily be called huge. The iPhone SE 2022 has a 12MP camera, the iPhone 16th a 48MP camera with a slightly larger aperture and a 2x zoom without loss of quality. The SE cannot compete with that. The selfie camera is also a lot better: 12 MP with f/1.9 compared to 7 MP with f/2.2 (a higher F value means a smaller aperture). The Selfie camera of the 16th therefore has more megapixels and lets more light inside.
Duration
Since the 16th is larger than the SE, the battery is also larger. Moreover, the processor is more energy efficient. This means that the battery life of the iPhone 16th is a lot better than that of the SE 2022, namely play 26 hours of video compared to 15 hours of playing video.
Other differences
The iPhone SE 2022 has a Lightning connection, all new iPhones (including the iPhone 16th) have a USB-C connection. In addition, the SE works with Touch ID and the 16th is equipped with Face ID. The 16th also has SOS emergency notification via satellite and accident detection. Finally, the iPhone 16th has an action button to which you can assign a function yourself. The iPhone SE 2022 still has a mute button.
Conclusion: iPhone 16th vs iPhone SE 2022
Since there are three years between these iPhones, it makes sense that the differences are large. And that is still softly expressed. The iPhone 16th is really better on all fronts than the iPhone SE 2022. The latter is no longer available new, but you can still find refurbished for around € 173.99. That is of course not money. This is in contrast to the iPhone 16th. It is certainly not cheap with € 719.
