The iPhone gets warm quickly, and that is not nice. But with the iPhone 17 Pro, Apple is going to change something, making it a lot less warm.
iPhone 17 Pro gets warm a lot less quickly (and this is why)
According to several rumors, the new iPhones get a new type of cooling system. This should ensure that the iPhone 17 Pro (Max) gets warm a lot less quickly.
This cooling system is not a new technique, but a ‘Vapor Chamber’. It is a cooling method that is used to remove heat quickly and efficiently. You can often find this technique in (gaming) laptops and graphic cards.

The system works on the basis of phase change: a small amount of liquid evaporates when heated and spreads as a vapor through the closed room. This vapor quickly moves heat to cooler parts of the Vapor Chamber, where it condenses for liquid again.
Some smartphones with Android already use a Vapor Chamber to cool the device, for example the Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra. If Apple decides to also use this cooling, the iPhone 17 Pro and the iPhone 17 Pro Max will be the first iPhones with this technique.
Majin Bu already shows a photo on X (former Twitter) on which the first part of the new cooling can already be seen. Whether it will really come is still to be seen. But if Apple still chooses it, the iPhone 17 Pro will at least get a little less warm than the current iPhones.
What kind of cooling do the current iPhones have?
The current iPhones use a passive cooling system. That means that there are no moving parts (such as a fan) for cooling in the iPhone. Instead, the iPhone uses special materials to remove heat from the chip and spread over the back of the device.
The metal frame of the iPhone (such as aluminum or titanium) also helps to get rid of that heat. That is also the main reason why your iPhone feels warm when it performs many tasks.
