Although the iPhone 17 won’t be announced until 2025, the first rumors are already starting to appear. Apple is said to want to launch a brand new model: the iPhone 17 slim.
This is said to be the thinnest iPhone ever and you can expect it alongside the iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max in September 2025. The slim model is said to replace the Plus and will get a slightly smaller screen. We’ve listed all the details that have been leaked so far for you.
iPhone 17 Slim
For months now, rumors have been circulating that Apple wants to introduce a new iPhone model next year. The iPhone Slim would be Apple’s thinnest smartphone ever and features a new design. The iPhone will reportedly get a 6.65-inch LTPO display with ProMotion and A19 chip.
Thinnest design ever
The iPad Pro with M4 chip has been designed by Apple to be the thinnest iPad ever, the Apple Pencil is even thicker. This old trend seems to be repeating itself, because in 2025 Apple would like to pull the same trick with the iPhone. Instead of providing all models with a new thinner design, Apple would have plans to launch a specific model that is ultra-thin.
The iPhone 17 Slim would get an aluminum casing that is thinner than the thinnest iPhone at the moment. How thin exactly is still unknown.
OLED display with ProMotion
The Slim model gets according to analyst Jeff Pu a 6.65-inch display, while display analyst Ross Young is talking about a 6.55-inch display. In any case, the screen will be smaller than the iPhone Pro Max models, which will then have a size of 6.86 inches.
The iPhone will feature an LTPO OLED display with ProMotion and possibly an always-on display. This will give the iPhone a refresh rate of 1Hz to 120Hz.
Smaller Dynamic Island
The Information claims that the device will have a narrower Dynamic Island, possibly due to Apple’s introduction of a smaller “metal lens” for the Face ID system.
More scratch resistant and less reflection
All iPhone 17 models will have an anti-reflective display, which is more scratch-resistant than Apple’s Ceramic Shield on current iPhone 15 models. The glass protecting the display is said to have a “super-hard anti-reflective coating” that is “more scratch-resistant.”
Moving cameras
Some rumors indicate that Apple may want to move the cameras on the back to the center of the Slim model. They will then be placed at the top centered. This is not new, because some Android phones such as Google’s Pixel 8 Pro have cameras centered on the back.
The number of cameras is not yet clear. Some analysts report a dual-lens camera system, but there are also rumors who talk about one super camera. The selfie camera will be improved to a 24-megapixel camera with a six-element lens.
A19 chip and proprietary 5G modem
The iPhone 17 slim is expected to get a high-quality A19 chip including 8GB of RAM. Furthermore, this smartphone would be one of the first devices to contain Apple’s own 5G modem.
No iPhone Plus Replacement
The iPhone 17 Slim seems to be a cross between the Plus and Pro model on paper. Perhaps with the ‘best of both worlds, in a smaller housing’. This creates a new iPhone, which is not a direct successor to the iPhone Plus, this model will disappear from the range next year.
iPhone 17 Slim Price
If we are to believe the rumors, the iPhone 17 Slim will be a special model. Not only will it be the thinnest iPhone ever, it will also be the most expensive. The price of the entry-level model would even be higher than the premium iPhone 17 Pro Max. That is striking, because in terms of specifications, the Slim will be ‘less’ than the Pro Max. Especially the camera, working memory and chip will be significantly less.
Analysts and rumors are talking about a starting price of $1299, the iPhone 15 Pro Max currently starts at $1199. Perhaps the new design is so special that it falls into a higher price range.
Availability
The iPhone 17 Slim may be announced in fall 2025 alongside the iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Pro, and iPhone 17 Pro Max.
iPhone Ultra
Since the introduction of the Apple Watch Ultra, Apple may also have plans to launch an iPhone Ultra. This would be a special or more luxurious version of the existing Apple smartphones. More and more sources suspect that the iPhone Slim could be this model, which could also explain the hefty price tag.
