Thanks to these 5 improvements, the iPhone 18 Pro models in September will eliminate a number of persistent shortcomings. Here they are.
iPhone 18 gets these 5 improvements
The iPhone 17 Pro received a striking new design last year, important upgrades to the telephoto lens and selfie camera, and numerous internal improvements. With the addition of vapor chamber cooling and a larger battery, the performance and battery life of the Pro Series have reached a new high.
However, there is still plenty of room for improvement, because several parts of the iPhone 17 Pro have remained unchanged for years. It looks like the iPhone 18 Pro will change that. These are the 5 improvements we expect with the iPhone 18.
1. Improved Dynamic Island

According to the latest rumors it will be Dynamic Island smaller on the iPhone 18 Pro because Apple hides certain Face ID components under the screen. If that is correct, the selfie camera will remain in the center and the other sensors will shift to the left below the screen. This should improve the experience when using media and brings the iPhone one step closer to the idealistic image of an uninterrupted screen.
Furthermore, the iPhone 18 Pro may use Samsung Display’s most advanced panels, improving clarity and efficiency. The iPhone 17 Pro already has an excellent screen, but its successor will probably surpass it.
2. Camera with adjustable aperture

Recent iPhones can certainly take beautiful photos, but they are still not a true replacement for mirrorless cameras due to the limitations of their size and design. For example, iPhone lenses currently have a fixed aperture, which gives you little control over the depth of field. However, the iPhone 18 Pro will have a lens with a variable aperture for the first time.
The apertures of current iPhone cameras are already as large as possible and always photograph with a fully open aperture. This improvement to the iPhone 18 Pro is therefore not about better photography in low light or a greater bokeh effect. Instead, it offers more creative control and allows you to match the shutter speed to the frame rate of videos without overexposure. That’s something that smartphones struggle with today.
3. Improved design

With the iPhone 17 Pro, Apple redesigned the exterior and reduced the use of glass to improve durability. However, the metal frame and the other glass parts do not have the same color. This makes the glass back panel look plasticky, especially on the orange and silver models. The iPhone 18 Pro fixes this by refining the finish of the glass back. This creates a more uniform overall picture.
There will also likely be new color options, including purple, burgundy and brown. That’s good news for anyone who finds the orange color too striking and prefers more subtle choices.
4. New processor
Apple is likely to switch from a 3nm to a 2nm production process this year. This allows more transistors to be crammed into a smaller space. The upcoming A20 Pro chip may therefore be smaller, but also faster and more energy efficient than the A19 Pro of the iPhone 17 Pro. This helps power more advanced features, such as AI, while ensuring longer battery life.
5. Simplified Camera Control

Finally, one of the improvements of the iPhone 18 models is a new one Camera controller. The updated button is probably no longer touch sensitive and only responds to pressure to perform tasks. This should make it more practical to use, especially if it supports shooting via light clicks that prevent vibration (and therefore blurry photos).
