Although the iPhone Air 2 has been postponed, the successor to the first thin iPhone will be available – we will tell you when you can expect it.
This is when the iPhone Air 2 will appear
Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman has shared new information about when the iPhone Air 2 will release. He said Apple plans to release the iPhone Air 2 and a 20th anniversary iPhone at various times in 2027. In the latest edition of his Power On Newsletter Gurman said the next iPhone Air will likely be released around March 2027, along with the ‘regular’ iPhone 18 and a cheaper iPhone 18e.
He also says that the 20th anniversary iPhone will likely follow in September 2027. Gurman expects this device to have a curved glass screen with a hidden camera on the front. These are all the new iPhone models that Gurman expects Apple to release between the second half of 2026 and the first half of 2027:
- Fall 2026 (probably September): iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max and iPhone Fold.
- Spring 2027 (probably March): iPhone 18, iPhone 18e and iPhone Air 2.

The iPhone Air 2 gets these innovations
Reported last week The Information that Apple will probably release a new iPhone Air with a second camera at the rear in the spring of 2027. The message also stated that the next iPhone Air will weigh less, have a larger battery capacity and a vapor chamber cooling system.
Gurman says adding an ultra-wide-angle camera to the iPhone Air is technically possible, but he thinks it’s a strange decision since the device’s so-called “platter” is already full and it’s a relatively large amount of work for an iPhone that few people buy. Features such as a second camera and a longer battery life could make the iPhone Air much more attractive, potentially increasing demand for the device.
Not postponed
Gurman believes that the iPhone Air 2 was always planned for 2027 and has therefore not been postponed. He expects the device to have a 2nm chip for faster performance and longer battery life.
Although there have been several reports that demand for the iPhone Air is low, Gurman said Apple always expected the device to account for only 6 to 8 percent of new iPhone sales. It’s unclear whether Apple has achieved that goal. If you don’t want to miss any of the developments regarding the iPhone Air 2, sign up for our newsletter!
