iPhone and iPad get next-gen batteries (and they last much longer)

Good news for future iPhones and iPads: A new report details next-gen batteries that could deliver “significantly better performance” by 2025. You need to know this!

Apple is working on a much more powerful iPhone battery

According to a report on the Korean site ET News Apple is developing ‘next-gen batteries’, which last much longer and are used in mobile devices. The technology has been in development for several years, but has yet to be officially unveiled. Rumors claim that the next-gen batteries will be available in 2025 and can then also be used in new devices.

Apple wants to develop a completely new battery by using new materials. The most significant change concerns the silicon content, which will increase ‘dramatically’ according to ET News. Using silicon instead of graphite can increase capacity and shorten charging time. This does create the risk of physical eviction, but Apple has reportedly made progress on this.

Next-gen batteries for mobile devices

ET News says the focus is now on mobile, but it’s likely the battery project was initially closely tied to the development of Apple Car. Improved battery performance is valuable for many different Apple products, from MacBooks to AirPods. The new battery will probably last much longer with all your Apple devices.

Still, battery performance is particularly important for the iPhone. That’s something Apple has recognized in recent years with numerous upgrades. For example, the estimated battery life on the largest models has increased from 20 hours of video playback on the 12 Pro Max, to 28 hours on the 13 Pro Max and 29 hours on the 14 Pro Max.

Will the next-gen batteries enable a significant increase in battery life for future iPhones? Maybe, but given the planned 2025 launch, we don’t expect that improvement until the iPhone 17 – assuming the project doesn’t run into any issues between now and then. So just wait a little longer.
