Because we don’t have Apple Intelligence here yet, in these iPhone tips we discuss 4 functions of iOS 18.1 that you can already use.
iPhone tips: iOS 18.1 features you can already use
The biggest innovations of iOS 18.1 are Apple Intelligence functions. In any case, this will not be of any use to us until April 2025. That’s why we have four features of iOS 18.1 in these iPhone tips for you that you can try out here!

1. Adjust speed of slow motion videos
We’ll start these iPhone tips with a handy feature for slow-motion videos. With iOS 18.1 it is possible to adjust the playback speed. You have the following choices:
- 100% (240fps)
- 50% (120fps)
- 25% (60fps)
- 20% (48fps)
- 12% (30 fps)
- 10% (24fps)
To adjust the playback speed, open a slow-motion video and tap the adjust icon at the bottom (the three horizontal sliders). Then tap the icon under “Done” in the top right. Now you can set the desired playback speed. If you are satisfied with the result, tap ‘Done’ at the top right.
2. One controller for two functions in the Control Panel
You can add a level control to the Control Panel, as well as a Measure control. If you do not want to overcrowd the Control Panel and keep it somewhat clear, it is good to know that it is not necessary to add both of these controls. It is enough to choose one, because it also gives direct access to the others. Both options appear when you press the controller for a long time.
3. Create a shortcut to the Control Center
You naturally open the Control Center by swiping down from the top right of the screen, but with iOS 18.1 you can do it differently. You can now easily create a task to open the Control Panel. You can then place a shortcut on the home screen. From now on, you open the Control Panel by tapping on it. It works like this:
- Open the Assignments app;
- Tap the plus sign at the top right;
- Find ‘Show Control Center’, tap it, then tap ‘Done’;
- Tap the three dots of the new command;
- Tap the down arrow next to ‘Show Control Center’;
- Choose Add to Home Screen, then tap Add.
If you have an iPhone with an action button, you can also choose to assign the command to that. From now on, you open the Control Panel by pressing the action button.
4. Reset control panel
Since iOS 18 you have many options to customize the Control Panel to your own wishes. You may have already experimented with it. The only disadvantage so far has been that you sometimes adjust far too much and that you cannot simply undo that. That problem has been solved with the arrival of iOS 18.1. No matter what you’ve changed in the Control Center, you can now easily get back to what it looked like originally. This is how you do it:
- Open the Settings app;
- Tap ‘Control Center’;
- Tap Reset Control Center.
Then confirm your choice by tapping ‘Reset control panel’ again.
