Royal class

Like a piece of classical art, this Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud is shining in the early spring sun somewhere in a city center. What a picture.
Whether you consider it the embodiment of pure class or especially gaudy: a Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud is always impressive. You can imagine that AutoWeek forum member JFR took these photos with his mouth watering. You’ll never really get used to bumping into a Rolls like that. Almost 5.40 meters of British steel, accompanied by an exuberant amount of chrome, you don’t walk past that without looking back.
We are dealing with a Silver Cloud from the third and last series, from the year 1963. A car that is over sixty years old, the predecessor of the Silver Shadow, which may be better known to many. In contrast to the Silver Shadow, the Silver Cloud – especially in the shape of the cabin – still had influences that were almost pre-war in appearance, supplemented by the more voluptuous lines that appeared in the 1950s. However, the third series already looked significantly more modern than its predecessors, with its double headlights. By the way, Bentley was still neatly in step with Rolls-Royce at the time; that sold this Silver Cloud III as S3 and the earlier series as S2 and S (later known as S1).
In 1999, when this white Silver Cloud was 36 years old, he received his Dutch plates. Not very long afterwards, in 2003, the current owner took the keys to the stately Rolls. We can imagine that it is usually somewhere indoors, but apparently it was spring-like enough last Friday to take a look outside. In this case probably for a pleasure ride, but we wouldn’t be surprised if the Silver Cloud is also occasionally used as a wedding car. After all, it lends itself very well to that, especially in white. The 6.2 V8 may cause a hefty bill if you drive it for a longer period of time, but it is certainly worth it.
