Everything has its (increased) price

Everything becomes more expensive, including expenses related to your car. Fuel costs were up again this year, but maintenance costs have also increased considerably. The latter is evident from data from Bovag and Rai Association.
Car owners spent an average of €444 on repairs or maintenance to their car in the first half of this year. That is no less than 8 percent more than in the same period last year. The average amount per maintenance event also increased in the first half of 2023, from €310 to €326. The latter in particular indicates that prices have increased. The increased costs for maintenance are of course related to rising costs of labor, parts, raw materials and energy. But the average age of the Dutch vehicle fleet also plays a role. That is increasing.
In the first six months of this year, a car went to the garage an average of 1.4 times for maintenance or repairs. In the same period last year, the counter recorded 1.3 maintenance moments per car. In total, there were 7.11 million maintenance moments in the first half of 2023. In the first half of 2022, there were negligibly fewer at 7.07 million. In 29 percent of the maintenance moments, it involved a combination of an MOT and maintenance. In 19 percent of the cases, it was a separate maintenance job and in 18 percent of the garage visits a repair was carried out in the meantime. In 10 percent of the cases, it was due to a separate MOT.
