Usually limited sports cars or supercars are already sold out when they are unveiled, but Alfa Romeo needed a little more time. The Italian brand will introduce the special Alfa Romeo Giulia GTA and GTAm in March 2020 in an edition of 500 units. Now – seventeen months later – the performance sedan costing at least 222,000 euros is finally sold out.
The Alfa Romeo Giulia GTA is a kind of Giulia CSL or Giulia GT3 RS. Because the letters GTA stand for ‘Gran Turismo Alleggerita’, the last word meaning ‘made lighter’. The designation was first used by Alfa Romeo in 1965, when the brand introduced the iconic Giulia Sprint GTA.
Alfa Romeo Giulia GTAm without rear seat
Alfa Romeo has made the Giulia GTA lighter by using a lot of carbon fiber, mounting lightweight wheels and opting for an Akrapovic exhaust. In the GTAm, the brand has gone even further. The model has no rear seat (but a roll cage) and is made of even more light materials than the GTA, making it 100 kilos lighter (1520 kilos).
Biturbo V6 from the Alfa Romeo Giulia Q
The well-known 2.9-liter biturbo V6 from Alfa Romeo provides the drive for the Giulia GTA. That is good for 510 hp in the Giulia Q, but has been tickled to 540 hp for the GTA and GTAm. If you use launch control in the Giulia GTAm, you can reach 100 km/h in 3.6 seconds. This makes it 0.3 seconds faster than the Giulia Q.
For 2 tons you will get some racing equipment
Alfa Romeo calls the Giulia GTA/GTAm a gift to enthusiasts. But it is an expensive gift (perhaps that’s why it took longer before the print run was finished): 222,112 euros for the GTA and 226,888 euros. Buyers will receive a special car cover and full racing equipment (helmet, overalls, gloves and shoes).
