The Italian consumer who is in the market for a new electric car can count on a substantial financial compensation. Automotive News reports this based on a source within the Italian government. The allowance can be as much as €6,000.
In the Netherlands you can apply for a Subsidy for Electric Passenger Cars (SEPP) of €3,350 for the purchase of a new electric car with a list price of up to €45,000. Automotive News reports that the Italian government also wants to introduce such a purchase subsidy, although the allowance there will be considerably higher.
Italy would grant an allowance of up to €6,000 for the purchase of a new electric car with a list price of up to €35,000. Of those 6 grand, about €2,000 would be given for scrapping a ‘polluting car with combustion engine’. So it’s kind of like a scrapping scheme. It is not known which old Euro emission standard a car must meet in order to fall into the ‘polluting’ category.
It does not stop at a subsidy for the purchase of a new fully electric car. For the purchase of a new plug-in hybrid, Italy would like to give an allowance of up to €2,500. If you have a ‘polluting car’ scrapped and if you buy a new car with a combustion engine that meets the Euro 6 emission standard, you could get up to €1,250. According to Automotive News, Italy is setting aside no less than €8.7 billion for the scheme until 2030, of which €700 million has been set aside for 2022.
