Jaguar i-Pace EV320: same range, less money

Jaguar proposed a less powerful version of the electric Jaguar i-Pace at the end of last week, but only did so in Germany. However, this EV320 version does come to the Netherlands and costs a lot less than the already known EV400 version.

The full name of the existing i-Pace ‘i-Pace EV400’ was hardly relevant until now, because Jaguar’s first EV was only available with this powertrain. Now, however, the EV400 is elevated to the most powerful top version, because the EV320 is a bit less powerful. The number in the type designation stands for the power in horsepower, which with the latest addition thus comes to 320 units. The 0-100 sprint thus takes 6.4 seconds, against 4.8 seconds for the EV400.

What is special is that it stays here. Unlike the Audi E-tron 50, for example, the lighter variant simply receives the large battery pack of the top version, so that fuel consumption and range do not change. The entry-level passenger is therefore good for 470 WLTP kilometers. Also important is the built-in charger, which was replaced in a recent update of the i-Pace by the much-desired three-phase one. This also applies to the EV320, which can charge with 11 kW just like its more powerful brother.

Now cheaper

In Germany, the Jaguar i-Pace EV320 was presented as a way to still get out of the tax-favorable net price of 65,000 euros with good equipment. The EV320 is therefore only available at the Eastern neighbors in combination with the middle trim level SE and costs the same as an EV400 in a simpler S-trim.

For the Netherlands, the importer chooses a slightly different approach, because here the car is considerably cheaper than the EV400. Jaguar charges a minimum of € 65,990 for the newcomer, while an EV400 must cost at least € 81,855. That also makes a significant difference to the addition, which in 2020 amounts to 22 percent for the part of the price that is north of the 45 grand. In comparison: major competitor E-tron 50 quattro, which is temporarily only available from stock, starts around 70 grand.

For those just under 66,000 euros, it is of course the simplest S variant. Anyone who wants some decoration can turn to Jaguar for an i-Pace EV320 with a Business Pack. For € 3,000, the car will get 20-inch light metal, an electrically operated tailgate, a second touchscreen under the ‘main copy’, heated seats and some other trifles. There is also such a Business Pack for the more expensive SE, which in that case offers more extensive adjustable seats and a panoramic roof for € 830. Prices of the SE and HSE versions are not yet mentioned, but will be added to this story if that changes.
