The Live Pro 2 TWS are among the most luxurious ears from the JBL stable. You can see that too. They are beautifully finished with a matte and glossy part. In our case in the black version. The wearing comfort is also a plus. They don’t weigh much and the weight is distributed in such a way that they don’t fall out of your ear easily. In addition, the oval-shaped rubber tips ensure that they are secured and provide sound insulation, suitable for your ear.

During testing, the earbuds fit comfortably, whether that was for extended periods of time during a workday or during activities. No burden and no falling in-ears. Although that experience is of course personal.

LDAC

If we look at the functions, then almost nothing is missing. There’s noise cancellation, an ambient mode, wireless charging, fast charging, voice assistance and an IPX5 water resistance. In addition, everything can be controlled via a versatile and clear app.

Is there nothing missing? Unfortunately. There is something missing: the earphones do not support LDAC. This codec (currently) provides the highest possible sound quality for Android smartphones. Many new in-ears in this price range now support LDAC, but unfortunately that does not apply to these Live Pro 2 earphones.

Does that make the sound quality disappointing? No. This one is still pretty good, especially if you compare it with previous in-ears from JBL, where too much emphasis is often placed on the bass. This balance is better and the equipment has audibly more to offer, so that sound details are more audible.

The excess of bass seems to have given way to more powerful sound. All in all, an improvement, especially for those who listen to music while exercising. But compared to other earphones in the same price range, not the best sound quality you can get.

Functions

The multiple microphones on board the JBL Live Pro 2 TWS ensure excellent call quality when you make (video) calls with your smartphone or PC. They also provide pretty good noise reduction. In the JBL app you can also make it adaptive, so that the noise reduction adapts to the amount of ambient noise. In practice I prefer to manually set it to maximum.

The reverse mode, which allows ambient noise to pass through to make you more aware of what is happening around you, also works quite well. Understanding conversations with your ears in, that is a bit difficult. But you hear enough so that you don’t have to be shocked by traffic around you or a colleague asking for your attention.

Battery life

JBL advertises a battery life of the earphones of no less than 10 hours. You don’t get that in practice. Especially not if you use noise cancellation or the ambient mode. But that does not alter the fact that the battery life is better than most earphones. When you listen without playback mode, the battery life is about eight hours. Six with noise cancellation or ambient mode on.

The charging box in which you place the earphones can fully charge the in-ears about four times and charge them quickly. You can charge the box itself via the USB-C connection, or wirelessly.

Alternatives to the JBL Live Pro 2

The JBL Live Pro 2 resemble, for example, the Live Pro+, but have made good progress in terms of playback modes and sound quality. The problem of the earbuds losing connection because they are not in contact with the ear also seems to have been resolved. In short, the JBL Live Pro 2 in-ears are the best JBL in-ears I’ve had the pleasure of testing so far.

However, they are not the best in-ears you can get. At the time of writing, the Sony LinkBuds S earphones are a bit more expensive than this Live Pro 2, and go a step further in terms of wearing comfort, playback modes and sound quality. The 1More Evo also impresses a bit more when it comes to sound quality. Yet JBL trumps other brands with the pleasant app and favorable price.

Conclusion: buy JBL Live Pro 2?

The JBL Live Pro 2 in-ears are the best in-ears from JBL that I’ve had the pleasure of testing so far. If the sound quality and noise reduction are extremely important, then other brands may make a little more impression, but you also pay more for that. That does not alter the fact that the JBL earphones are all-round in order and that nothing is missing functionally.
