1.3T ‘FireFly’ power source stronger and more economical
Jeep Compass
Jeep replaces the 1.4 MultiAir engines with the new FireFly units with 1.3 liter capacity. These blocks are more powerful but more economical and cleaner.
Fiat Group’s MultiAir engines were once among the cleanest power units available. But time passed and competitors came. Fortunately, the parent company FCA has developed new, cleaner engine blocks: the FireFly family. Made entirely of aluminum, so it weighs only 110 kg – which can increase performance. The 1.3-liter copy is called GSE, from ‘Global Small Engine’.
The new four-cylinder 1.3-turbo petrol engine is therefore capable of delivering at least 130 hp of power. With that version, the Compass comes with a manual six-speed gearbox. A 150 hp variant is also available for the SUV. Then the Compass is equipped with a 6-speed DDCT automatic transmission, which has been specially adapted for the model. The torque for both versions is up to 270 Nm. According to the brand, the Compass 1.3T emits up to 27 percent less CO2 and is more economical, compared to the previous 1.4 engines.
The entry-level version is the new Compass Sport, available from 31,900 euros. Private leasing is possible from 449 euros per month. The Sport standard features a height-adjustable driver’s seat, Uconnect Live infotainment system, cruise control and various driver assistance systems. All versions are available in five new paint colors, and there are also six new wheel designs. Now that the Compass is being built in Italy, Jeep expects that waiting times will be halved.
