The first new car of 2021 is a fact: Jeep presents the completely redesigned Grand Cherokee. Here is the first information about the full-size SUV, which now also appears with seven seats.
Jeep kicks off the new year with the unveiling of the fifth generation Grand Cherokee. The brand has kept its signature (off-road capable, luxury equipment). Thanks to a new platform, it has increased safety and reduced fuel consumption. This floor plate also enables a new version, the Grand Cherokee L with third row of seats. However, it is not yet clear whether this version will be marketed in our country. The Dutch sales start of the regular Grand Cherokee is expected at the end of this year.
The new Jeep Grand Cherokee in short
The front of the new Grand Cherokee looks more aggressive than ever, due to the tall lower grille. The LED lighting is new. The exterior has been designed a bit more aerodynamically to improve the driving characteristics. Jeep has also paid attention to weight reduction (for lower fuel consumption) and the prevention of noise and vibrations. The bottom is now slightly higher above the ground, and the car can also wade through deeper water.
The new body can be equipped with three different four-wheel drive systems. The platform is also suitable for optional Quadra-Lift air suspension and the standard Selec-Terrain traction control system. For the first time, the front axle is directly connected to the engine. The front and rear suspensions are independent.
Use of stronger steel makes the large SUV safer. The new generation Grand Cherokee has Level 2 autonomous driving functions (including a hands-free assistant) and a multitude of modern driving aids (night vision camera, traffic sign recognition, blind spot monitor, Active Lane Management, etc.).

In terms of multimedia, the SUV features the latest Uconnect system, available with 8.4 or 10.1 inch touchscreen. The smartphone can be connected wirelessly via Apple CarPlay or Android Auto. Eight devices can be registered at the 4G LTE WiFi hotspot. New, luxurious dressing options are also available for the new generation.
In the American market, customers can choose from a 3.6 liter Pentastar V6 petrol engine and the 5.7 liter powerful V8. The former produces 290 hp and 349 Nm of torque; the latter 357 hp and 529 Nm.
