Jeep is expanding the range of the Renegade and Compass with a new hybrid powertrain. The two crossovers will also be available as an e-Hybrid.
The Jeep Renegade and Compass are no stranger to the concept of ‘hybrid’. Both the Renegade and Compass can already be ordered as 190 hp or 240 hp Plug-in Hybrid. However, Jeep now also adds a regular hybrid powertrain without a plug to the range. We are introduced digitally to the Renegade and Compass e-Hybrid.
The new hybrid powertrain consists of a 130 hp blown 1.5 four-cylinder that generates 240 Nm. That petrol engine is supported by an electric power source that in turn delivers 20 hp and 55 Nm. However, the combined power is not yet released by Jeep and we also have to guess about the capacity of the battery pack. The 1.5 petrol engine is also an interesting one. This is new for both the Renegade and Compass. Until recently, Jeep only supplied the crossovers with 1.0 (115 hp) and 1.3 (130 hp and 150 hp) turbo petrol engines. The front-wheel drive Renegade and Compass e-Hybrid are always equipped with a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.
The Renegade e-Hybrid is capable of reaching 100 km/h in 9.7 seconds. The Compass takes 0.3 seconds extra for this. The top speed of the Renegade e-Hybrid is 191 km/h, the Compass e-Hybrid runs slightly faster with a top speed of 193 km/h. More interesting is the consumption gain, which according to Jeep amounts to 15 percent compared to the existing petrol models. Or will all conventional petrol versions of the Renegade and Compass be discontinued? It’s very similar. Jeep says it is now fully electrified in the Netherlands. We are still waiting for confirmation.
More striking news: the Renegade simply retains its current form and will therefore not be facelifted – as in Brazil recently. In addition, Jeep of the Renegade and Compass e-Hybrid introduces an Upland version that is packed with more recycled materials than the conventional variants. You can recognize them from the outside by the standard black roof and the ‘MetaKrome’-colored finish in the grille and at the skid plate.
The Jeep Renegade and Compass e-Hybrids will be at dealers from this spring. Prices will follow soon.
