Kia is not only responsible for numerous passenger cars worldwide, but also builds army vehicles. It is now working on a new generation of various vehicles intended for armed forces.
Here you will not see them quickly (or something very much has to change on the world stage) but Kia makes numerous military vehicles, especially for its home country South Korea. For example, we know the KLTV (far left in photo 2); a true Humvee lookalike. A series of trucks for the local armed forces also come from Kia. In the near future, Kia wants to come up with more modern vehicles for the military. That is why it is preparing a platform for cars such as the successor to the KLTV. Photo 1 shows such a vehicle in concept form.
According to Kia, the platform is based on the basis already known from the latest Mohave. Naturally adapted according to the purpose of the military vehicle based on it. While the Mohave is equipped with fuel engines, Kia is also exploring all-electric powertrains and fuel cells for use in the newcomers. In addition, Kia is working on a modular basis for heavier work. The 2.5 to 5-tonne vehicles must be placed on it. The first sketches of this are now with the South Korean government. In terms of motorization for this, Kia grabs at least a whopping 7.0-liter diesel engine. Government approval is expected next year, and Kia expects to have a range of new military vehicles operational by 2024.
