The Kia Stinger is without doubt the exclusive candy of the Kia stable. Good news for those who appreciate the model with us: there is a facelift on the way, so for now the car seems to stay.
The Stinger is without doubt Kia’s image maker, the car that deliberately exchanges the rational for a more enthusiast-oriented approach. The fact that Kia does not use a roadster or coupé, but a five-door liftback, actually makes the story even tougher.
It also means the Stinger will always be an outsider, but that doesn’t stop Kia from giving the car an intermediate facelift. According to good Korean usage, the car photographed has been thoroughly camouflaged. Today’s news is not so much what changes, but more that what will change. In any case, expect a different mesh in the grille and a slightly differently lined front bumper. There is a good chance that the LEDs in the headlamps and taillights will be placed differently, but the shape of the light units is not based on these images.
On the inside, the Stinger is undoubtedly introduced to a new infotainment system and a wider screen, because Kia has recently made the necessary innovations in this area. A new digital instrumentation and a different steering wheel are also among the more obvious options.
In the corridors it is also whispered that the Stinger gets (even) more power, but that remains guesswork for the time being. It is clear, however, that the most desirable version – the one with a 3.3-liter V6 – in the Netherlands will remain a somewhat overpriced boy, even after the facelift, thanks to the bpm system. The other versions are also no runners: in ‘peak year’ 2018, thirty Stingers were still registered on the Dutch registration, but in 2020 there have been no more than two.
