Krautschau: With open eyes through the city

Stone, concrete and asphalt dominate in the cities. But nature also finds its way here. In joints and niches there is an amazing variety of plants – which is overlooked by most people. The Krautschau participation campaign is intended to help against this plants.

They live an inconspicuous existence in cracks in the wall and paving joints, are trampled, rolled over, fought with fire – and yet come again and again. Around 500 plant species have adapted to urban living conditions such as heat, compacted soil or air pollution. They transform rivals and road edges into a habitat for insects, while at the same time alleviating the effects of climate change in the city. But most people pass the surprising biodiversity in their city blindly every day.
