Since the Kalina line was merged with the Granta family in 2018, the Lada Granta delivery range has been made up of many variants. However, we did not yet know a 340 hp Granta.
Anyone who goes shopping in Russia for a compact family car in the B segment and likes to stick to a Russian-made car, cannot ignore the Lada Granta. Since the Kalina models were added to the Granta family, the Granta has been available as a sedan, liftback, five-door hatchback and compact station. In principle, the Granta’s are powered by a 72 hp 1.6 eight-valve, but those who really want to immerse themselves in the abundance of Avtovaz, can turn to Lada for a 98 hp 1.6 with sixteen valves. Anyone who finds the 10.5 seconds the Granta needs to accelerate to 100 km / h too slow should consult MR Motorsport.
MR Motorsport is a Russian rally team that transforms a Granta hatchback, which until two years ago simply stood as Kalina in the Lada showrooms, into a true rally cannon. The 1.6 has been spooned out of the nose of the five-door and makes way for a 1.8-liter four-cylinder that distributes its power to all four wheels via a sequential six-speed gearbox. That 1.8 stamps out no less than 340 hp in the rally Granta. The Russian weighing 1,254 kilos has a stripped interior, a roll cage and bucket seats. Of course, the chassis has also been completely overhauled. MR Motorsport will compete in the Absolute class of the Russian rally championship next year. So you can’t buy the special Russian, but we couldn’t resist paying some digital attention to it.
